What are the Best Ski or Snowboard Gloves?
What are the best ski or snowboard gloves?
This is a questing I think we have all asked ourselves over the years. Should I buy mittens or fingered gloves, Gore-Tex, Nylon, Neoprene, Leather, Insulation or No Insulation, Goggle Wipes, Nose Wipes, Breathable. The list goes on and on.
I can finally say I found a pair of gloves that last more than a one season. Enter, the Burton RPM gloves. I was a bit skeptical using a full leather glove, but after pounding it for over 50+ days on the mountain the gloves are still going strong.
My second concern was “How waterproof are leather gloves?” When I was young I thought that water could destroy Velcro. I remember pouring gallons of water on my little brothers shoes just waiting to see the look on his face when the Velcro didn’t work anymore. Well I was wrong about Velcro, and I was wrong about leather gloves too. The Burton RPM gloves come with NIKWAX and this stuff is amazing. It’s a little pack of goop that completely waterproofs the gloves. After about a year of use, I noticed some moisture appearing on the fingertips of the gloves, so I got out the old pack of NIKWAX, applied a new layer, and the gloves were just as waterproof as the day I bought them.
Burton calls the gloves “Pistol Grip” which means they come pre-curved and are more atomically correct. They have a Thermacore insulation, these gloves stay warm well below the freezing level.
The only downfall I can point out is the gloves can feel a little bulky if you are use to riding a smaller pipe style glove. Also the price is a little steep for a pair of gloves, especially when your use to gloves not holding up more than a season. The dough spent on the gloves will pay you back when you use them for years to come. Just don’t drop them while you’re riding up the chair lift.
